Sarah Bennetto is Lucky

Trades Hall, Thursday 16th April 2009

My second go at trying to see this show and luckily I read the message about the run finishing on Sunday or I would have waited until next week thinking it was still on. Cheers to Casey and Aurora who I stuck my head in the door to say hello to while they were warming up before their show.

In this show Sarah Bennetto tells the story of having a so-called "lucky" streak and the problems it can cause in life. I liked this show as it was a storytelling show with jokes thrown in when they were justified in the context. Having had my own run-in with the street press magazine from Melbourne she mentions in one story, I also found that part of the show particularly funny.

I don't want to give away all of the stories as that would spoil the fun, but I am reminded of the story of "Poor Nasubi" where a man was locked in a room naked for a Japanese TV show and forced to survive by winning contests. In the performance I attended there was also an audience member whose hobby was entering contests so it is not as rare as you would think. A funny show and well worth checking out if you are looking for something to go to before dinner or to wind-down after work. If you do want to do the double-header with Casey Bennetto's show afterwards, just show him the Sunny Boy as you walk through the door and he will know why you were late.

Sarah is also presenting the Storyteller's Club show at Trades Hall on Friday nights at 11pm with some popular comedians from the festival, something else to look out for.
